tom victor
game designer // 3D artist
Hello, and thanks for visiting my portfolio! My name is Tom (he/him), I am a game designer based in Montreal.

  • Unity generalist with experience coding gameplay in C#, making UI, tools and some VFX.

  • On projects, I like to work closely with artists to ensure everyone's vision find its place in the game.

  • I have an open work visa, am available for remote work and can speak french, english and german.

Below are examples of what I could do for your project. If you're interested, e-mail me at contact@tom-victor.com :)

Game design and Gameplay programming
I'm a Game Designer with experience in both small teams (2 to 5 people) and in a "mobile AAA" team" (30+ people), so I'm used to quickly prototyping mechanics exactly the way I want them, but also writing clear design documents or preparing presentations to explain a new design direction to a team, or recap the different avenues we're exploring...

For the past 4 years, I worked at Square-Enix Montreal as a Game Designer on a mobile RPG that was helmed by Teddy Dief (sadly cancelled) and a Space Invaders AR game, among other things.
During that time I designed systems, coded gameplay prototypes, but also worked on improving feedbacks with VFXs for power-ups and UI elements. Contact me if you want more details about my work at SEM.

Recently I've been working as a freelance gameplay programmer, and over the last 2 months my work has involved coding "mario galaxy-style" gravity and platforming controls, an in-game spaceship editor, character customization, an NPC dialog system, spaceship navigation and foraging systems (Contact me also if you want to see videos of that work).

UI integration / UX
I have experience designing UI flows, making mockups and working with artists to make sure their visuals are well integrated.
Having worked on menus for mobile/PC/console games, I think upfront about how to keep them adaptable for any platform.

3D Modelling / Texturing
Otherwise you can hire me to make 3D props and characters! I use mainly Blender and 3DS Max, but I'm also familiar with Zbrush, and I prefer to make models with flat and handpainted textures. Although it's not my expertise, I can do basic rigging, and help with unity integration, including by making non-PBR shaders to achieve unique renders.

Particle Effects / Shaders
I'm experienced with Unity's particle system and multiple nodal shader editors, so I can help with VFXs in Unity :)
